Avandia
Recently, the New England Journal of Medicine reported unfavorably on the Diabetes medication Avandia. After careful review of the available information regarding the drug, the physicians of Laureate Medical Group do not recommend stopping the medication without consultation with a physician. In general, Avandia is most likely still an appropriate part of a diabetic patient's drug regimen if the patient has well controlled blood sugars, normal Blood Pressure and acceptable cholesterol levels for diabetes. However, we think it may be reasonable to consider a medication change on an individual basis if someone has a history of heart disease, uncontrolled cholesterol or blood pressure, or is not comfortable continuing with Avandia. We suggest you contact us so that together we can determine the best course of action for you.
