Philanthropy
Supporting special causes that help people in need is an important part of Laureate Medical Group's mission of compassionate care. In our case, compassion has developed into ongoing participation and financial support of some causes that have helped people not only in our own community, but in other parts of the United States and the world.
In the local community, Laureate physicians and staff have been supporters of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation through its local "Walk for the Cure" for many years, and more recently, have supported the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation through fundraising efforts and participating in the organization's 3-Day Walk in Atlanta.
Last year, the practice extended its philanthropic efforts, donating more than $25,000 to assist the victims of the South Asian tsunami through Direct Relief International, a non-profit organization that provides medical assistance to victims of natural disasters. In addition, Laureate Medical Group collected both money and food to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Through these efforts and with the help of our patients, the practice raised nearly $50,000 in 2005 alone.
This year, Laureate Medical Group has chosen to support two main organizations: the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Georgia Chapter, and the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Both of these organizations provide excellent opportunities for our physicians and staff to do more than offer monetary donations. They offer us ways to personally give back by volunteering our time and by staging food drives throughout the year.
We know many of you - our patients and friends - share our concern for those in need and we welcome your support. To find out how you can volunteer or make a contribution to one of these charitable organizations, please visit these web sites:
In addition, the Practice donates employee time to work at the Atlanta Community Food Bank's Product Rescue Center the second Wednesday of each month. If you would like to join our employees at the center, please email Heba.Adkins@laureatemed.com.
Thank you for sharing in our efforts to help those who most need it.
