Laureate Medical Group Co-founder Dies

Dr. Bernard PalayThe staff and physicians of Laureate Medical Group with regret share the news of the death of Dr. Bernard Palay, one of our founding physicians, on May 5. He was 82.

Dr. Palay opened his first office in 1962. He formed a partnership in 1972 with Dr. Milton Frank III that would lay the groundwork for Laureate Medical Group. His legacy is now a 20-physician, five-location practice that has celebrated 50 years of service in the Atlanta metro area. During his 40-year career in medicine, he was involved with many medical and community organizations that advocated for the aged or underserved in our community.  He was a Georgia delegate to the White House Conference on Aging, a founding Fellow of the American Geriatric Society, and medical director and attending physician at the William Bremen Jewish Home.

His community activities included serving as president of the Crawford W. Long Hospital staff, as team physician for the Atlanta Hawks and as the consulting physician in allergy at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. When he retired in 2001, Dr. Palay was honored by his Laureate Medical Group colleagues with the dedication in his name of the medical suite at the Jewish Home.

Dr. Palay's survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sandra; two children and two grandchildren.
