Scott M. Leibowitz, M.D., D, ABSM, FAASM, has joined Laureate Medical Group as Medical Director of the Sleep Medicine Practice. Dr. Leibowitz’ interest in sleep medicine began more than a decade ago with a holistic approach that encompasses sleep as it relates the whole individual, with a focus on health, wellness and prevention. A graduate of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, Dr. Leibowitz received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. Following an apprenticeship at the Sleep Disorders Center of Southeastern Lung Care in Decatur, Georgia, he completed a clinical and research fellowship in sleep medicine at the Stanford Center for Sleep Sciences and Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. He has previously served as Medical Director for Sleep Medicine Consultants Georgia, P.C., in Atlanta, The Sleep Center at Putnam General Hospital in Eatonton, Georgia, and The Sleep Disorders Center of Cardiac Disease Specialists in Atlanta. Most recently, Dr. Leibowitz was co-Medical Director of The Sleep Center at Piedmont Hospital and The Sleep Medicine Practice of the Piedmont Heart Institute. Dr. Leibowitz has written and lectured extensively on topics in sleep medicine for peer reviewed medical journals and textbooks, and served as a section editor for the comprehensive textbook The Encyclopedia of Sleep Science. He is an assistant clinical professor at Emory University in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and sits on the faculty of the Atlanta School of Sleep Medicine. In addition, he is currently the acting President of the Georgia Association of Sleep Professionals. Dr. Leibowitz will begin seeing patients September 1, in the Sandy Springs location.
