Endocrinology

Endocrinology is the medical specialty that focuses on treating diseases of the endocrine system which are caused by the hormones that the endocrine glands produce. The endocrine glands include the pituitary, thyroid, pancreas, adrenals, ovaries and testes, and most endocrine conditions are long-term or chronic.

At Laureate Medical Group, our board certified endocrinologists perform a wide range of diagnostic and lab tests to determine endocrine disorders – often referred to as hormone imbalances. The most common reason to see an endocrinologist is for management of both Type I and Type II Diabetes.

Endocrinology

Diabetes occurs when the hormone insulin, produced by the pancreas, is either deficient or absent, causing an elevation in blood sugar levels. Another common reason to visit an endocrinologist is for thyroid dysfunction, when the thyroid can be overactive (hyperthyroidism) or underactive (hypothyroidism).

Conditions seen by our endocrinologists include:

  • Addison’s Disease
  • Cushing’s Disease
  • Diabetes Type I
  • Diabetes Type II
  • Gestational Diabetes
  • Grave’s / Hyperthyroidism
  • Growth Hormone Deficiency
  • Hashimoto’s / Hypothyroidism
  • Hyperparathyroidism
  • Hypoparathyroidism
  • Hypogonadism
  • Metabolic Syndrome
  • Menopause
  • Obesity
  • Osteoporosis
  • Thyroid Cancer
